College of Business Minority Scholarships


For academically talented new beginning freshmen or community college transfer students from traditionally underrepresented groups; students must have a major in business; $1,000 annually renewable for four years. The number of awards is based on the applicant pool and endowment proceeds. Candidates must have at least a 2.5 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale.  Interested applicants need to submit an application and supporting documents by January 15th.

 

Willie Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by Willie Brown, retired executive vice president at State Farm Insurance Company, a native of Bloomington, Illinois and 1973 graduate of the business administration program at Illinois State University.  This scholarship was established for the purpose of providing substantial financial support for a minority student of African American experience or any non-traditional student majoring in business at Illinois State.

One $1000 award will be made on an annual basis.  Awards will be used for educational expenses and will be credited to the recipient’s account with Illinois State University.

Qualified applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior College of Business major in good standing at Illinois State University with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75/4.00 or higher
  • Be a student of African American experience or a non-traditional student of any race
  • Show a commitment to civic engagement through meaningful involvement in community service and civic activities

Livingston Family Endowed Scholarship Fund:

For incoming freshmen of African American experience majoring in business - preference for accountancy majors; one or more $1,000 non-renewable awards will be given each year.  Candidates must have at least a 2.75 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale, rank in the top quarter of their high school graduating class, or have an ACT composite score of 23 or above or equivalent SAT score.  Need may be a contributing factor in cases where two or more applicants have apparently equal qualifications. (Recipients may apply for additional funding through his/her senior year depending upon academic performance and endowment proceeds.)

Interested applicants need to submit an application and supporting documents by January 15th.

Diversity Excellence Business Scholarship:

For incoming freshmen or new transfer student of color majoring in business; one $1000 non-renewable award will be made on an annual basis. Candidates must have at least a 3.0 high school gpa or have an ACT composite score of 24 or above. Transfer students must have at least a 3.0 transfer gpa. Qualified students must demonstrate an unmet need for financial aid as determined by the Illinois State Financial Aid Office and/or federal regulation and/or personal circumstances, and demonstrate involvement in school and/or community activities and/or substantial work history (list the number of hours worked per week to help fund his/her education expenses. (Financial need is a primary factor in the selection process.)

Illinois State University Black Colleagues Association Scholarship

The ISU Black Colleagues Association is a group of alumni who are eager to support young Black Americans who are pursuing a college education but find it financially difficult. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. Access on-line information.

The Minority Student Academic Center (MSAC), a component of University College, functions primarily to enhance the academic success and retention of minority undergraduates at Illinois State University by offering academic reinforcement in a designated location. Hispanic College Fund Scholarship Program


HCF is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Hispanic leaders. HCF accomplishes its mission by awarding scholarships to talented undergraduate students. HCF offers scholarships to students pursuing majors in business, science, and technology. More information is available online.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)


The HSF scholarships generally range from $1,000 to $3,000 for community college, four-year college, and graduate level students of Hispanic heritage. Minimum eligibility includes the following: Hispanic background, be a full time student at an accredited U.S. college, be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US, have completed a minimum of 12 college credits, and have a minimum grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 grading scale. Japanese American Citizens League National Scholarship Awards Program


There are seven categories of awards for over 40 awards per year. Applicants interested in JACL scholarships should make note of the following: applicants must be JACL members to qualify for a scholarship, applications for membership may be requested with the application; applicants may apply under one category only: entering freshman, undergraduate, graduate, law, and creative and performing arts -- please check the scholarship brochure for more information; scholarship awards range in the amounts of $1,000 to $5,000; some of the requirements to apply include: JACL membership, personal statement, letter(s) of recommendation, official transcripts. Native American Scholarship Fund, Inc.

The Native American Scholarship Fund (NASF) has $15,000 in scholarship funds available for Native American students attending college in the state of Illinois. Students wishing to apply for scholarship funds must meet the following criteria: Show proof of one-quarter American Indian Blood; Submit certification of tribal enrollment; Attend an accredited institution of higher learning, Show above-average grade point and ACT or SAT scores. United Negro College Fund, Inc.


The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is the nation's largest, oldest, and most successful minority higher education assistance organization. UNCF administers over 400 scholarship programs for African American students. Apply online at the UNCF Web site.

The Gates Millennium Scholars


The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education, in all discipline areas and a graduate education for those students pursuing studies in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for thousands of outstanding students with significant financial need to reach their fullest potential.
